The ultimate weight loss guide

Cannot Lose Weight

I cannot lose weight is a familiar refrain.  But it is simply not true, you just need to find the weight loss program that works for you.

There are so many different diets out there, just how do you find the perfect one?     You should remember that the basics of dieting haven’t really changed.  You simply eat less and move about more.  So take any claims on weight loss programs of being revolutionary or brand new with a grain of salt.

What you should be looking for in a diet plan:

1) The ability to personalise the plan to your lifestyle.

Your weight loss program should fit in with your everyday life.   If you have to make drastic changes you are less likely to stick to the new plan.  You want something that fits into your lifestyle as this will give you a much better chance of success.

2) Offers a combination of healthy eating and exercise

It is a lot more difficult to lose pounds purely by following a healthy eating plan.  Moderate exercise will increase your loss and help you to tone up at the same time.   To help increase the fat burning effect, you need to increase the strength of your muscles.  Also if you have a lot of weight to lose, you do not want to be left with saggy skin.

Exercise provides health benefits that dieting alone cannot offer.  You build your bone density which is important in preventing osteoporosis in later life

3) Doesn’t exclude a whole food group

The problem with diets that exclude a full food group is that they can become monotonous. In fact you can begin craving those foods that are prohibited.  We all want what we cannot have!  You can also miss out on vital vitamins and minerals.  To function at their best, our bodies need some of all the food groups even, on special occasions, those that are “bad” for us.

4) No promises that you will lose weight regardless of what you eat.

If a diet claims to do something that just doesn’t make sense, trust your instinct and avoid it.  Some teenagers are lucky enough to be able to eat what they like and not gain weight but for most of us, it is an impossible dream.   It simply isn’t possible over the long term to eat whatever you want and not to gain pounds and as soon as you accept this, your weight loss journey will become easier.

5) No reliance on supplements or pills.

Weight loss pills or laxatives are not the solution to long term health.  Unless your doctor has recommended a certain medication, you should give all diets associated with these types of products a miss.

6) No quick fixes

The reality is that if you lose pounds on a quick fix diet, you are statistically more likely to regain that weight and more.  Boring as it sounds the best way to regain your figure is by losing a pound or two a week. Slow weight loss is much easier to maintain and your chances of retaining your new slimmer figure improve significantly.
